About Sue Rezin
Senator Sue Rezin is a dedicated public servant, experienced policy leader, and Deputy Republican Leader in the Illinois Senate, where she represents the 38th Legislative District. Since first being elected to the General Assembly in 2010, she has built one of the most respected and substantive legislative records in Springfield — grounded in fiscal responsibility, public safety, energy reliability, and strong advocacy for families and local communities.
Throughout her tenure, Senator Rezin has distinguished herself as a results-driven legislator who focuses on practical policy solutions rather than political theatrics. Her leadership is defined by a steady, thoughtful approach to governance, consistently prioritizing taxpayers, economic stability, and the long-term strength of Illinois’ communities.
National Leadership on Energy & Policy
Senator Rezin is nationally recognized for her leadership on energy policy and grid reliability. She has been a leading advocate for preserving Illinois’ nuclear fleet and played a key role in advancing policies that protect reliable, carbon-free energy generation in the state. In 2023, she supported lifting the moratorium on new nuclear reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs), positioning Illinois for a stronger and more secure energy future.
Her work has extended to the national stage through leadership roles with the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL), where she has served in key positions focused on energy supply, natural resources, and environmental policy. Through this work, she has helped shape forward-looking discussions on energy affordability, reliability, and innovation.
Delivering Results for Illinois Families and Communities
Senator Rezin has consistently prioritized policies that directly impact the everyday lives of Illinois families. She has championed initiatives focused on childcare affordability, early childhood development, and protecting minors in an increasingly digital world. As the founder of the “Safe Screens Healthy Minds” initiative, she has led efforts to raise awareness and advance policy solutions addressing the mental health and safety challenges associated with social media and online platforms.
She has also been a strong advocate for rural and regional healthcare access, supporting policies that help stabilize hospitals and expand healthcare options for communities outside major metropolitan areas. Her work reflects a deep understanding of the unique challenges facing both rural and suburban districts.
Strong Voice for Public Safety and Responsible Government
A consistent supporter of law enforcement and safer communities, Senator Rezin has advocated for policies that promote accountability, public safety, and respect for those who serve and protect. She has also maintained a strong record of fiscal restraint, opposing unnecessary tax increases and supporting responsible budgeting that protects taxpayers while maintaining essential services.
Advocacy for the 38th District
Beyond statewide policy, Senator Rezin has been a tireless advocate for the communities she represents. She has supported regional education institutions, economic development initiatives, and key local priorities, including continued advocacy for Starved Rock State Park and investments that strengthen the local economy and tourism. Her work on behalf of Northern Illinois University and regional funding fairness further reflects her commitment to ensuring that her district receives the attention and resources it deserves.
